The Director General of Opomulero Group, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori, has cautioned that the early and overzealous pursuit of a 2028 governorship ambition by the Minister of Interior, BTO, may ultimately jeopardize his future political opportunities.
According to the DG, governorship politics is far more complex and demanding than local government contests, where proximity and limited structure may influence outcomes.
“Governorship is not a local government election,” he stated. “It demands wide consultations, statewide acceptance, strategic patience, and careful alignment with established political structures. No serious contender rushes into the race without weighing the long-term consequences.”
Hon. Olakunori stressed that premature ambition—especially when it ignores existing zoning arrangements and party cohesion—can alienate critical stakeholders and weaken an aspirant’s credibility when it matters most.
He further warned that heating up the polity several years before the election is both unnecessary and dangerous, as it risks creating avoidable divisions within the party and distracting from governance.
“This is not the time for personal ambition to override collective responsibility. The priority now should be governance, consolidation, and strengthening party unity. Those who understand timing and strategy will always have the advantage over those driven by impatience,” he added.
The DG concluded by urging political actors to exercise discipline, respect due process, and learn from political history, noting that poorly timed ambition has ended many promising careers before they fully matured.
