The Director General of the Opomulero Movement, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori Michael (DG Opomulero), has strongly commended the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, for her immediate intervention, courage and decisive action following the disturbing and heartbreaking case of alleged child abuse involving a seven-year-old girl in Unaun New Site, Upenmen, Owo Local Government Area.
DG Opomulero described the alleged act of brutality against the young girl by her father as a cruel, inhuman and unacceptable violation of the rights and dignity of a child. He condemned the reported torture in the strongest terms, stating that no reason, excuse or circumstance can ever justify subjecting a child to physical, emotional or psychological abuse. He emphasized that bedwetting, which is a common childhood challenge, is not a crime and must never be used as a reason to inflict pain, humiliation or violence on any child.
He applauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for demonstrating strong leadership and maintaining an administration that prioritizes the protection, welfare, safety and dignity of women and children across Ondo State. According to him, the government’s zero-tolerance stance against child abuse is not just a public statement but a clear policy backed by immediate intervention, enforcement of the law and commitment to ensuring justice for victims.
DG Opomulero further commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, the Divisional Police Officer of Owo ‘A’ Division, His Royal Highness the Olunaun of Unaun, community leaders, welfare officers, medical personnel and all individuals and institutions who played vital roles in rescuing the child, providing medical attention, ensuring her safety and supporting the process of bringing the matter to the attention of relevant authorities.
He also specially commended Mr. Olugbenga Amaka, the Opomulero North Senatorial Leader, for promptly drawing his attention to the unfortunate incident. According to DG Opomulero, the timely information provided by Mr. Amaka enabled him to immediately contact the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, whose swift intervention ensured that the child was rescued, received urgent medical attention and that the suspect was arrested without delay.
He expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Seun Osamaye for recognizing the efforts of the Opomulero Movement in exposing the incident and facilitating government intervention, noting that the protection of vulnerable children requires the cooperation and commitment of government agencies, community leaders, civil society organizations and responsible citizens.
DG Opomulero urged parents, guardians and caregivers across Ondo State to adopt positive parenting methods built on love, patience, understanding and proper guidance rather than violence, intimidation or harmful disciplinary practices. He warned that any individual who abuses, neglects or endangers a child will face the full consequences of the law, regardless of social standing, family background or influence.
He called on residents of Ondo State to remain alert and proactive by reporting cases of child abuse, domestic violence, neglect, exploitation and any form of harm against children to the appropriate authorities. He stressed that keeping silent about abuse allows perpetrators to continue their actions and places more children at risk.
