This is governance that looks beyond today and prepares Ondo State for tomorrow.

The assent by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to the Ondo State Electric Power Sector (Amendment) Law, 2026 is a bold and strategic step toward transforming electricity into a major driver of industrialisation, investment and economic growth.

For years, unreliable power has remained one of the biggest obstacles to businesses, industries and households. This new law creates a clearer regulatory framework, establishes the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, strengthens metering and consumer protection, encourages private-sector participation, and opens the door for investments in renewable energy, mini-grids, small hydro and other power solutions.

Most importantly, it gives investors greater confidence that their investments will be protected while giving communities and private individuals legal protection for electricity infrastructure they finance.

This is not merely another piece of legislation. It is about creating the legal foundation for Ondo State to generate, regulate, distribute and attract investment into electricity.

Governor Aiyedatiwa deserves commendation for embracing the opportunities created by Nigeria’s decentralised electricity framework and positioning Ondo to compete for serious investment in the power sector.

From industrialisation to job creation, from stronger businesses to better living conditions, reliable electricity can change the economic story of Ondo State.

As DG Opomulero, I commend His Excellency Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the Ondo State House of Assembly for this forward-looking intervention.

Ondo is not waiting for the future. We are building it.
