The Director-General of Opomulero Group/Movement, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori Michael, has responded to Barrister Mogbojuri Kayode’s latest political projection for the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, advising him to concentrate on the urgent responsibilities attached to the office before discussing 2028 politics.

According to the DG Opomulero, nobody has a problem with Barrister Mogbojuri Kayode expressing his political opinions or projecting BTO for the future. However, political ambition should not make anyone lose sight of the immediate challenges confronting Nigerians.

“We have tested BTO, and we have also seen the expectations that come with his office. Today, Nigerians are looking for solutions to real problems, not another political manifesto for 2028.

“While Barrister Mogbojuri Kayode is busy measuring what Ondo State should look like in 2033, Nigerians abroad are asking a much more immediate question: where is the solution to the passport renewal crisis?”

Olakunori said the viral reports and videos of Nigerians stranded at passport intervention facilities in the United Kingdom, unable to secure timely passport renewals, should be a matter of serious concern to the Minister of Interior and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“People travelled abroad for legitimate reasons — education, employment, business and family responsibilities. They should not be left stranded because they cannot obtain or renew a Nigerian passport.

“This is not an issue that requires a 2028 campaign strategy. It requires administrative efficiency, accountability and urgent intervention.

“If Barrister Mogbojuri Kayode truly wants to help BTO, he should encourage him to concentrate on the responsibilities of the Interior Ministry and ensure that Nigerians, both at home and abroad, receive the services they deserve.”

The Opomulero DG further stated that it is easy to write beautiful projections about increased IGR, employment, better healthcare, infrastructure, good governance and a prosperous Ondo State.

“Everybody wants a New Ondo State. We all want better roads, better healthcare, quality education, employment, investment and accountable governance. Nobody will disagree with those aspirations.

“But governance is not built by writing attractive paragraphs about what Ondo State should become in 2033. Governance is built by solving the problems confronting citizens today.

“Before we start talking about 2033, let us talk about today. Let us talk about the Nigerian whose passport has expired and who cannot renew it. Let us talk about the student who needs his passport for his education. Let us talk about the worker whose documentation depends on a valid passport. Let us talk about the family that is being inconvenienced because of administrative delays.”

Olakunori also cautioned against turning every conversation about governance into an early succession campaign.

“BTO is currently serving as Minister of Interior. Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is the Governor of Ondo State. Let everyone concentrate on the mandate they currently hold and deliver for the people.

“We have tested BTO. We have seen him in government. We have also seen Governor Aiyedatiwa in government. The people are capable of judging performance when the time comes.

“Political succession should not become a distraction from governance. There is a time for politics and there is a time for service.”

The DG Opomulero maintained that his intervention was not personal against either BTO or Barrister Mogbojuri Kayode.

“I have repeatedly made it clear that I have no personal problem with Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. My concern is with performance, responsibility and the welfare of our people.

“Barrister Mogbojuri Kayode should therefore do his friend a favour: instead of spending valuable time projecting BTO for 2028 and 2033, he should tell him that Nigerians are watching the Interior Ministry now.

“The people stranded in the United Kingdom do not need a 2033 vision statement. They need their passports.

“Let BTO face the job. Let the Ministry fix the system. Let Nigerians get the service they deserve.

“Politics will always come. But when people are in distress, responsible leadership must come first.”
