The Director-General of Opomulero Group/Movement, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori Michael, has welcomed the clarification issued by the Ondo State Government over the trending report alleging that an “Ondo Governor’s Aide” was arrested over alleged possession of illicit drugs and firearms.

According to the DG, the clarification from the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has put the record straight: the young man mentioned in the report is not an aide to Governor Aiyedatiwa and holds no political appointment in the present administration.

Hon. Olakunori described the attempt to associate the individual with the Governor’s Office as another example of how misinformation can be used to create unnecessary political controversy and damage the reputation of an administration.

“It is important that the public understands the facts before drawing conclusions. Not every person whose name or image appears in a social media report is an appointee of Governor Aiyedatiwa. The government has clearly stated that this individual has no political appointment in the administration.

“Those deliberately attaching the name of the Governor to an individual who is not his aide should tell the public where they got their information from. Politics should not become an excuse for spreading unverified allegations.”

The Opomulero DG also supported the call for the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that due process is followed.

He stressed that allegations involving illicit drugs and firearms are serious matters that should be handled by the appropriate security authorities rather than being turned into political propaganda on social media.

“We support a proper investigation. If there is a crime, let the law take its course. But if someone is innocent, his rights must equally be protected. What we should not encourage is trial by social media or the deliberate politicisation of criminal allegations.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa should not be held responsible for the actions of every individual in Ondo State simply because someone chooses to describe that person as a ‘Governor’s aide’ without verification.”

Hon. Olakunori therefore urged journalists, bloggers, political actors and social media users to exercise restraint and verify information before publishing or amplifying sensitive reports.

He said the administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa remains focused on governance, development and delivering on its responsibilities to the people of Ondo State, adding that misinformation would not distract the government from its agenda.

“The facts are now clear. The man is not a political appointee of Governor Aiyedatiwa. Let the police investigate the matter, let due process prevail, and let those who spread the original false impression have the courage to correct it.”
