The attention of the Opomulero Movement has been drawn to yet another sensational and misleading narrative alleging that Ondo State is being “crippled” by delays in the release of funds. This claim, though cleverly packaged, is far from the reality of governance under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
Let it be made clear: governance is not about reckless disbursement of public funds but about prudence, accountability, and strategic prioritization. What some critics describe as “delay” is, in fact, a deliberate effort by this administration to ensure that every kobo released serves the people of Ondo State effectively and transparently.
Governor Aiyedatiwa inherited a system that required restructuring, discipline, and financial sanity. Today, rather than operate a free-for-all treasury where funds are released without proper checks, his administration has instituted a process that guarantees:
Value for money
Elimination of leakages
Alignment of spending with real developmental priorities
It is therefore disingenuous for anyone to interpret due diligence as dysfunction.
Contrary to the alarmist claims being circulated:
Projects are ongoing across key sectors, including healthcare, infrastructure, and security.
The Executive Council continues to approve critical interventions aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
Government institutions are functioning, and no arm of government has been abandoned.
What critics conveniently ignore is that Ondo State, like many subnational governments, operates within a broader economic reality—one that demands careful cash flow management rather than impulsive spending.
On the issue of the Ministry of Finance, it is important to emphasize that financial coordination is not a “choke point” but a necessary control mechanism in any serious government. Without such coordination, the same voices crying today would be the first to accuse the government of financial recklessness tomorrow.
The attempt to create fear around the judiciary and the House of Assembly is also unfortunate and misleading. These institutions remain active, and there is no credible evidence that their constitutional roles are under threat.
We must caution against the growing trend where individuals, under the guise of analysis, seek to politicize administrative processes and create unnecessary tension in the polity.
Governor Aiyedatiwa is fully aware of his responsibilities and remains committed to ensuring that governance is not only active but also sustainable, transparent, and impactful.
Rather than chasing headlines, stakeholders should support ongoing reforms that are designed to build a stronger and more accountable Ondo State.
Ondo is working. The system is being cleaned. And progress is steady.
