The attention of the Opomulero Movement has been drawn to a recent publication by Sola Ajisafe, Esq., titled “Breaking the Jinx In Ondo: The Cost of Consensus Without Consent.” While we respect the right to opinion in a democratic society, it is necessary to correct several misrepresentations and place the actions of His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in proper context.
Let it be stated clearly: Governor Aiyedatiwa is not an enemy of democracy—he is a custodian of party stability, unity, and strategic progress.
The argument presented attempts to portray consensus as imposition. This is both misleading and politically naïve. Consensus, as practiced within the APC and across progressive political traditions, is not merely about open contest—it is about strategic alignment, internal negotiation, and preservation of party cohesion. It is a time-tested mechanism that has saved parties from destructive primaries and unnecessary fragmentation.
In states like Lagos, consensus has been effectively deployed to sustain political strength and continuity. It is therefore inconsistent and hypocritical to condemn in Ondo what is celebrated elsewhere.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, as the leader of the party in Ondo State, holds the constitutional and political responsibility to guide the direction of the party. Leadership is not passive—it requires difficult decisions, foresight, and sometimes, firm choices in the interest of the collective.
On the issue of ranking Senators, let us be honest:
ranking is valuable, but it is not absolute. Performance, loyalty, grassroots connection, and alignment with party direction are equally critical. Political offices are not tenured appointments—they are subject to continuous evaluation within party structures.
The insinuation that Ondo State will lose relevance without specific individuals is an exaggeration. Ondo is bigger than any one or two politicians. The state’s strength lies in its collective political machinery, not individual entitlement.
Furthermore, the claim that there was no consultation is far from accurate. The Governor has consistently engaged stakeholders across levels. However, consultation does not mean capitulation. At the end of the day, leadership must produce direction.
Those who have chosen to obtain nomination forms have exercised their democratic rights—this, in itself, proves that the system is not closed. The party remains open, structured, and guided by rules. No one has been denied participation.
What we must avoid at this critical time is overheating the polity with alarmist narratives that suggest crisis where there is none. Ondo APC remains united, focused, and committed to delivering victory in 2027.
Let us also caution against veiled threats that attempt to pitch the Governor against the Presidency or national leadership. Such narratives are unnecessary and unhelpful. Governor Aiyedatiwa remains a loyal and strategic stakeholder within the APC and is fully aligned with the broader goals of the party.
The real danger is not consensus—it is disunity.
The real jinx is not leadership decision—it is internal sabotage.
Governor Aiyedatiwa is acting not out of vengeance, but out of responsibility—to reposition the party, balance interests, and secure a stronger future for Ondo State.
We therefore urge all party members, leaders, and stakeholders to respect party processes, support constituted authority, and prioritize unity over personal ambition.
Ondo’s progress will not be built on emotional arguments, but on discipline, structure, and strategic leadership.
