The recent article authored by Oloroogun Sola Ajisafe, titled “Ambassador of Optics: On Law, Silence and Selective Justice in Ondo,” is yet another attempt to dress political grievances in legal language while ignoring the undeniable progress made by the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
I have carefully read the article and I align with the position earlier expressed by DG Opomulero that the publication is more of a political narrative than an objective assessment of governance.
No responsible government claims perfection, but fairness demands that every administration be judged by verifiable achievements rather than selective criticism. Under Governor Aiyedatiwa, Ondo State has witnessed deliberate efforts to strengthen the justice sector through improved funding, recruitment of legal personnel, enhancement of institutional capacity, and greater respect for judicial independence. These are tangible reforms, not mere public relations exercises.
It is therefore unfair to dismiss every achievement simply because every challenge has not yet been completely resolved. Issues such as inadequate court facilities in some parts of the state and welfare concerns affecting judicial officers are long-standing institutional challenges that cannot reasonably be blamed solely on the present administration. The important question is whether the government is taking meaningful steps to address them, and the answer is yes.
Equally disappointing is the attempt to politicize the unfortunate incidents surrounding the APC congress. Criminal investigations and prosecutions are matters for the appropriate security and judicial institutions. It is neither just nor responsible to convict the Governor in the court of public opinion without credible evidence that he interfered with the process of justice.
The award conferred on Governor Aiyedatiwa by the NBA Akure Branch was not purchased or imposed. It was a recognition by legal practitioners who assessed the administration’s commitment to supporting the justice system. While every citizen has the right to criticize government, such criticism should remain balanced, factual, and free from political bias.
I commend DG Opomulero for courageously defending the truth against attempts to distort public perception. His response rightly reminds us that governance should be evaluated holistically and not through selective narratives designed to score political points.
The people of Ondo State deserve constructive engagement that offers solutions rather than relentless attacks intended to undermine public confidence in institutions. Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains focused on delivering good governance, strengthening democratic institutions, and promoting peace, security, and development across the state.
History will ultimately judge this administration by its record of service, not by politically motivated commentaries.
