The recent campaign against Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s proposed flyover project in Akure has exposed a disturbing trend in our politics, where some individuals appear determined to oppose every developmental initiative simply because of political considerations.

The Akure flyover is not a political project; it is a strategic infrastructure investment aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving road safety, boosting economic activities, and giving the Ondo State capital the modern infrastructure it deserves. Every well-meaning son and daughter of Akure should support this vision rather than join campaigns intended to frustrate it.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has consistently demonstrated that governance is about delivering tangible results. From road construction and healthcare improvements to workers’ welfare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and rural development, his administration has continued to record verifiable achievements across Ondo State. These accomplishments have naturally weakened the narratives of those who predicted failure.

It is therefore regrettable that some supporters of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, have continued to attack the flyover project instead of encouraging development that will benefit the people of Akure and Ondo State as a whole. Political differences should never become an excuse to oppose projects that serve the public interest.

The people of Akure must not allow themselves to be misled by political propaganda or premature succession politics. Our priority should be the growth and development of our city, not the ambitions of any individual or political camp.

Governor Aiyedatiwa remains focused on fulfilling his mandate and delivering projects that will positively impact generations to come. No amount of political distraction, misinformation, or orchestrated criticism will stop the ongoing transformation of Ondo State.

We therefore call on all sons and daughters of Akure, irrespective of political affiliation, to stand firmly behind this landmark project. History remembers those who build, not those who discourage development for political convenience.
