The attention of the Opomulero Group has been drawn to recent remarks credited to the Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Most Rev. Jude Arogundade, suggesting that Akure is “under siege “due to rising insecurity.
While we hold the Church and its leadership in high esteem and acknowledge the moral voice they represent in society, it is important to state clearly that security matters should not be sensationalised from the pulpit in a manner that could create unnecessary panic among residents.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Director General, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori, emphasized that security is a collective responsibility that goes beyond government alone.
While concerns raised are understandable, they must be addressed with caution, collaboration, and factual balance.
There is no denying that Nigeria, like many nations, is grappling with security challenges.
However, it is important to recognize that the Ondo State Government under Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated clear commitment and proactive leadership in curbing insecurity across the state.

Strengthened the operations of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), leading to swift responses to incidents.
Enhanced collaboration between local vigilante groups and federal security agencies.
Supported intelligence gathering and rapid intervention strategies that have led to the rescue of victims and disruption of criminal activities.
The recent incident in Akure, though unfortunate, also reflects the effectiveness of the state’s security architecture, as victims were promptly rescued through coordinated efforts of security operatives.
Hon. Olakunori further noted that portraying Akure as being under siege does not accurately reflect the broader reality on ground and may inadvertently undermine the confidence of residents and investors in the state capital.
“We must be careful not to amplify fear. Security challenges are real, but so are the efforts and results being recorded by this administration,” he stated.
He reiterated that the fight against insecurity requires synergy between government, religious institutions, community leaders, and citizens.
The Church, as a critical stakeholder, is encouraged to continue its role in promoting peace, unity, and moral guidance, while also supporting security awareness among its members.
