I have read the article by Dr. Joel Ademisoye concerning the recruitment of forest guards and security challenges in Ondo State. While every well-meaning citizen has the right to contribute ideas on how to improve security, it is important that such contributions are guided by facts and a fair assessment of ongoing efforts.
To suggest that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is silent, passive, or inactive on security matters is far from the reality on the ground.
Security is not a matter of media headlines or public relations stunts; it is a sensitive responsibility that requires strategic planning, collaboration with security agencies, and continuous investment. Since assuming office, Governor Aiyedatiwa has consistently demonstrated commitment to the protection of lives and property across Ondo State.
The Governor has continued to strengthen the Amotekun Corps, support conventional security agencies with logistics, vehicles, communication equipment, and operational resources, while also facilitating joint security operations across the state’s troubled areas. These interventions may not always make newspaper headlines, but they are yielding results in the ongoing fight against criminal elements.
It is also important to note that security architecture differs from one state to another. What works in Bauchi State may not necessarily be copied wholesale into Ondo State without considering local realities, existing structures, and professional security advice. Governance is not about imitation; it is about adopting solutions that best fit the peculiar needs of the people.
The call for forest guards and enhanced surveillance technology is not entirely misplaced. However, such measures require proper legal frameworks, funding arrangements, coordination with federal security agencies, and sustainability plans. Governor Aiyedatiwa is a responsible leader who understands that security policies must be carefully implemented to achieve lasting results rather than short-term political applause.
Furthermore, the administration has repeatedly emphasized community participation and intelligence gathering. No security system can succeed without the cooperation of citizens. The Governor has continued to encourage residents to provide credible information to security agencies and support community-based security initiatives.
Those who genuinely desire a safer Ondo State should support ongoing government efforts instead of creating the impression that nothing is being done. The security challenges facing Nigeria are national in scope and require collective action from governments, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and citizens.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains fully committed to safeguarding Ondo State, and under his leadership, the government will continue to strengthen all necessary measures to ensure that criminal elements have no hiding place in our forests, communities, or highways.
