THREATS TO MY LIFE WILL NOT SILENCE ME; I HAVE RECORDED EVIDENCE AND CALL ON SECURITY AGENCIES TO ACT — DG OPOMULERO SAYS HE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO CRITICISE SENATOR NIYI ADEGBONMIRE’S PERFORMANCE
The Director General of the Opomulero Group, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori Michael (DG Opomulero), has expressed concern over alleged threatening phone calls he says he has received following recent political disagreements and has called on the relevant security agencies to investigate the matter.
According to DG Opomulero, one of the threatening calls was received at 12:11 p.m. from the phone number 08035287445. He stated that he has preserved the original call recording, call logs, and other relevant evidence and will submit them to the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other appropriate security agencies for forensic investigation.
DG Opomulero also urged Senator Niyi Adegbonmire to publicly appeal for peace and discourage any form of intimidation by anyone claiming to act in his name or in support of any political interest.
“I have every constitutional and democratic right to assess and criticise the performance of elected public office holders. During the 2023 electioneering period, several political meetings in support of Senator Adegbonmire’s candidacy were held at the Opomulero office. My decision to express concerns about his performance as a Senator should not be met with threats or intimidation. Political disagreement must never become an excuse for harassment or violence.
“The threatening call I received came through 08035287445 at about 12:11 p.m. The recording and other evidence have been preserved and will be handed over to the appropriate security agencies to determine the identity of the caller and anyone connected with the alleged threat,” he said.
DG Opomulero stressed that democracy is strengthened by constructive criticism, accountability, and respect for differing opinions. He called on the security agencies to investigate the alleged threatening calls thoroughly, identify those responsible, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful politics and stated that no amount of intimidation or threats would deter him from speaking on issues affecting the people of Ondo State.
