The Director General of Opomulero Group, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori, has described the recent open letter by Oloroogun Sola Ajisafe against the proposed 2.38-kilometre flyover in Akure as a collection of pessimistic assumptions, political sentiments, and outdated arguments that fail to appreciate the realities of a rapidly growing state capital.
According to DG Opomulero, it is surprising that a stakeholder who claims to be concerned about the future of Akure would oppose one of the most ambitious infrastructural projects ever conceived for the state capital.
“Oloroogun Sola Ajisafe’s argument suggests that Akure should remain where it was yesterday instead of preparing for where it is going tomorrow. Great cities are not built by waiting for total collapse before investing in infrastructure. They are built by visionary leaders who anticipate future demands and act ahead of time.”
DG Opomulero noted that the claim that traffic congestion in Akure can be solved solely through enforcement is both simplistic and unrealistic, stressing that modern urban planning requires a combination of traffic management, road expansion, and strategic infrastructure.
“It is unfortunate that Oloroogun Sola Ajisafe reduced a major developmental initiative to mere politics. Every serious government plans for the future. The flyover is not being constructed for today’s traffic volume alone; it is an investment for the next several decades of Akure’s growth and expansion.”
The DG further stated that contrary to the impression being created, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated remarkable commitment to infrastructure development across Ondo State, with several road projects, urban renewal programmes, healthcare interventions, educational investments, and rural development initiatives already impacting the lives of citizens.
“Those who continue to predict failure for every project initiated by Governor Aiyedatiwa are not offering constructive criticism; they are simply promoting a culture of negativity. Before construction even begins, they have already written the obituary of the project. That is neither objective nor patriotic.”
DG Opomulero also challenged the attempt to discredit the project based on speculation about execution, emphasizing that government decisions of such magnitude are based on professional engineering studies, technical evaluations, and long-term development plans, not on personal opinions.
“It is easy to criticize from the sidelines. It is much harder to provide leadership and make bold decisions that will shape the future. Governor Aiyedatiwa has chosen the path of courage and development, and history will vindicate him.”
The DG maintained that Akure deserves infrastructure that reflects its status as a state capital and economic hub, adding that future generations will benefit from investments being made today.
He therefore urged residents of Ondo State to ignore attempts by Oloroogun Sola Ajisafe and other critics to discourage developmental initiatives and instead support the Governor’s vision for a modern, prosperous, and globally competitive Ondo State.
“Development has never been achieved through fear, cynicism, or endless criticism. It is achieved through vision, courage, and execution. Governor Aiyedatiwa has shown all three, and the people of Ondo State are already witnessing the results.”
